| Visitors to the town can view Strathaven Castle, also known as Avondale Castle.
The castle dates back to the 14th century, and according to tradition, the wife of a past lord was walled up alive in part of the Castle wall. Built in the 17th century and sited to harness the power of the waterfall this former flour mill has been converted to house an arts centre with a small theatre.
